Your Break ≠ Their Battery

Managers asking you to charge the company EV during your lunch?
Let’s be clear: your break is YOUR time.
Under UK law, your rest break must be uninterrupted and free from work duties. Plugging in a van isn’t “just a quick favour”, it’s unpaid labour. It’s a task. And it chips away at the boundary between work and rest.
You’re not a charging station. You’re a human being.
Lunch breaks are there for you to recharge, mentally, physically and emotionally. Not for the company vehicle to top up its battery.
If you’re being asked to do this, speak up. It’s not petty, it’s about protecting your time, your wellbeing, and your rights.
Let’s stop the creep. Let’s protect the break.
